Meet our Head of Operations & Sustainability

Meet our Head of Operations & Sustainability, Hanna Wiegers

Hanna will be the first to admit she’s never been a full-fledged makeup junkie, but she fell for clean beauty hard after finding non-toxic skincare products that were gentle and good for her sensitive skin. She joins Saie as our Operations & Sustainability Lead, where she explores and spearheads the most sustainable ways to manage every aspect of our brand; from packaging and marketing collateral to a robust recycling program, she makes sure all of our products and practices are friendly for you and for our planet. We sat down with Hanna to learn a little bit more about her journey and the guests she would invite to her dream dinner…

Describe your job at Saie in three words. Ready, go!

What does it mean to you to "Have It All"?

HANNA

One of my favorite yoga teachers, Jenn Tardif, said "what if having it all actually means having all the feels - from heartache to euphoria - with a deep reverence for the impermanence of it all?" That captures what having it all means to me.

You're hosting a dinner party with your dream guests. Which three people (living or passed away) would you invite and what would you serve them?

HANNA

I would invite Catherine de Medici, who was the most badass queen of France in the 1600s who basically ran the country at a time when women didn't do that. Next would be Helen Frankenthaler, an artist surrounded by mostly male artists who somehow made a name for herself anyway. And finally, my grandmother, who would fit right into this group of powerful women in her own right. I'd probably spend weeks reading from my cookbook collection to figure out what to cook but would just end up cooking sweet potato curry, which I make once a week because it's a crowdpleaser and I've totally mastered it.

Do you have a go-to beauty look? Walk us through it.

HANNA

My routine recently has been really simple - I wash with the beautiful Kjaer Weis cleanser that has this wonderful milky texture and sweet herbal smell, and I use True Botanicals toner and oil (both from the Clear collection). Sometimes I'll do a mask - I love May Lindstrom's Problem Solver mixed with yogurt and local honey. I also love the Hannes Dottir kelp mask. And I absolutely love Goop's glycolic acid peels - so good. In terms of makeup, I'm usually testing something for Saie, so right now I wear Mascara 101, Brow Butter in clean, and our Liquid lip balm, and something that we're working on for the future. I also love Kjaer Weis lipstick in Amour Rouge and Jillian Dempsey eye dew. My dream look is super dewy skin with a little mascara. Lastly, I've been using 3rd Ritual's new Moon cream to help ground me at night and during the day - it reminds me to enjoy every moment.

What does a typical Saturday look like for you?

HANNA

I love to sleep in a little and drink coffee in bed - sometimes I read the paper (I love the Lunch with section in the Financial Times where they have lunch with someone interesting and profile it). I live around the corner from the Fort Greene farmers market, so I'll usually stop and get more coffee at Bittersweet (in my reusable Keep Cup of course!) then head to the market to pick up some things. I love She Wolf bread in particular - their seeded rye is unreal. Then I'll maybe run or go to a Sky Ting yoga class. But if I don't I'll usually hang out at home. My boyfriend and I moved this summer and we’re still getting the apartment all put together so sometimes we'll go antique shopping or hang up art. Then we either go out to eat or cook a feast that we have with natural wine at home. The night usually ends with a movie in bed, which I invariably fall asleep during.
