- Beeswax (Cera Alba)
Our beeswax is responsibly sourced in Australia. It allows the mascara to coat, lengthen, and stiffen but not harden the eyelashes. Provides a moldable, malleable component to the mascara to allow for shaping and holding of the eyelashes but also provides flexibility.
- Shea Butter
It is moisturizing and will nourish your eyelashes. It also creates a silky, smooth texture, making application easy. We source our organic, non-GMO Shea Butter from Ghana and it is processed in the Netherlands.
- Hydra-Mineral complex (Quackgrass extract)
Rich in minerals for lash strengthening.
- Cacao Seed Butter
The fat obtained from the seeds of the cacao seed used as an emollient and skin conditioning agent. We use raw cacao seeds from The Ivory Coast and Ghana, which are then processed in the Netherlands.
A naturally derived moisturizer. It contains vitamins A, D and E and powerful antioxidants and fatty acids like Omega 6 & 9. We source ours from non-GMO, responsibly sourced, jojoba plants grown in Arizona.
- Candelilla Wax
This is a natural wax that comes from the Candelilla shrub which is a succulent. It is rich in nutrients while acting as an emollient and a skin-protective barrier agent to prevent moisture loss in brows.
A natural wax produced by bees to build the walls of their honeycomb - ours is responsibly sourced without hurting any bees. It acts as a thickening agent, giving the formula structure.
A moisturizing super ingredient that improves overall quality and appearance of lips. It has the same chemical structure as sebum, the natural oil produced by the skin’s sebaceous glands. This is an amazing blend of sugar and yeast made through bioengineering. Squalane used to only be able to be created from shark livers or olive oils, both of which aren’t as renewable as sugar and yeast.
- Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is obtained from the dried inner flesh of the coconut (Cocos Nucifera). It is full of lower chain length fatty acids, including lauric acid, capric acid, myristic acid and palmitic acid making it a highly effective moisturizing agent. We source ours from Tahitian coconuts processed in New Jersey.
Glycerin that's plant derived is a super powerful humectant. It protects against environmental stressors, works with the other oils and squalane in the formula to help increase the skin's natural moisture level, and it is very gentle and non-irritating for a variety of skin types.
- Vitamin C
Vitamin C helps to brighten the skin, so this formula has a skin care effect, too!
- Rose Hip Seed Oil
Rose hip seed is super antioxidant-rich, brightening skin and helping to moisturize at the same time.
Break up with the bad stuff.
This is a neurotoxin considered to be way worse than mercury. Long term exposure of aluminum powder can impair the body's ability to expel mercury.
Parabens are commonly used to prevent bacteria growth in mascara, however they are endocrine disruptors that mimic estrogen in the body to disrupt your hormones.
- Propylene Glycol
This has been deemed safe by the FDA but is known to cause skin irritation. It is a known allergen and toxic to reproductive organs.
- Butylene Glycol
It is a derivative of petroleum and used as a preservative, solvent and humectant. Side effects could be depression, drowsiness, skin irritation, dermatitis and hives. Butylene Glycol typically destroy the substances that protects your skin’s health over then long term. Although it may feel good because it is light and doesn't make your skin feel greasy, it leads to increase of acne causing bacteria and makes inflammation worse.
Polybutene is a light colored, nondrying, sticky liquid that can be derived from petroleum. It's normally used as a binder, thickener and lubricant in makeup. Polybutene is a human irritant for anything used around the eyes or on your skin. Weird fact— polybutene is commonly used as an airplane adhesive. Yikes!
Typically they are used because they extend the shelf life of products. However Parabens are a group of preservatives that prevent the growth of bad bacteria and mold in your beauty products. They mimic estrogen in the human body, and are linked to reproductive organ harm, thyroid disruption, hormone-related cancers, and obesity.
This is a catch all term for many hidden ingredients. You should be avoiding any lip products with the word fragrance on it. Fragrances contain high levels of Phthalates which are hormone disruptors.
- Petrolatum (petroleum jelly + mineral oils)
Petrolatum is made from petroleum— yes, what you put in your car— that has been refined. This is a known carcinogen and creates an airtight barrier on the skin which acts enhances absorption.
- Butylated Hydroxyanisole (BHA)
This is one of the most common ingredients used as a preservative in lip balms. These chemicals have been linked to endocrine disruption, organ toxicity, reproductive toxicity and cancer.
Isohexadecane creates a milky, rich texture in a formula without leaving skin greasy or weighed down. However, there's a big risk it's contaminated by 1,4-dioxane, which is an environmental pollutant and can be super irritating.
Even though they don't absorb into the skin, silicones can be comedogenic, making it impossible for pores to breathe, and they're also bio-accumulative, meaning once they're washed off, they build up into a silicone sludge in our waterways that isn't great for marine life.
- Polyethylene glycols (PEGs)
PEGs can often be contaminated with ethylene oxide, which is a carcinogen and obstructs human development.
